Cocinita Pibil - West L.A. or SFV

Just watched Rick Bayless dig a pit in his back yard to cook this on his tv show. It looked awfully good! Any recs for restaurants in the area will be most appreciated.

Border Grill in Santa Monica might also have it, maybe as a special?

Dona-Rosa in Pasadena & Arcadia. In my mind, it is the best dish and authentic.

The best I've had in this area was at El Emperador Maya but they sadly are gone. Their space is now Babita Mexicusine. A really good and reasonably priced version that is available only on weekends is at La Flor de Yucatan, pretty much take out only but I've been known to eat a couple of cochinita tacos before I leave! If you like !!!HOT SALSA!!! be sure to ask for a little container of the Green Habanero Salsa, my favorite salsa, anywhere, period! Hojaldra are yummy, hard to go wrong with ham and cheese in a great pastry! Flan and 3-Leches Cake are killer good, by the piece or whole ones.

Further east, Yuca on the E side of Hillhurst in Los Feliz sells a good pibil. It's a little shack in a parking lot and it closes early, but the food's tasty and inexpensive.

Paco's in Culver City has surprisingly good Cochinita Pibil, in fact, I think it's one of the best things on the menu. You can either get the full plate or get it via tacos. Either way, with the thick homemade tortillas, it's quite the treat.

In Sherman Oaks, Senor Fred has quite a nice cochinita pibil. Look in the entres section of the menu linked here
