I opened both the Seleccion Especial and Victoria 2005 before the GF and I went out for Valentines dinner. Just had a little of each and though the Victoria is notably better it is not THAT much better. There is a slightly bitter finish in the Seleccion Especial that was not lurking around the Victoria but the difference was not large enough to justify the price difference. Here in Baton Rouge I got the Seleccion Especial for 16.99 and the Victoria for 36.99 (or maybe 32.99). The Victoria is a nice treat but if i was serving it after dinner with friends i think I would spend the money on a nice wine to drink with the courses.

I saw the page you were getting the info from. It looks like Semillon is known as the Malaga grape somewhere, but Jancis Robinson's Oxford Companion says most Malaga is made form Moscatel. Seems like the Wine Monger needs to pick up a copy and crack it open.
More important--what'd you think of the drink? -

I don't think there's any botrytizing going on with these or any Malaga (sorry if you weren't implying there was), but I served the Seleccion Especial 2004 a month or so ago. It was a big hit and a great deal. Lovely burnt caramel/orange marmalade flavor--perfect with the accompanying orange tart.
