Memphis, TN............

I have been going to Memphis for 40 years but I have avoided downtown for a long time. Now it seems The Peabody has been renovated and there are better places to dine downtown.

What would you recommend for an overnight trip to The Peabody..........Felicia Suzannes, Stella or Chez Philippe's............I have been to CP's but it was a long time ago. I would try either of the three again. Thanks for the suggestions...............

  1. The former chef at Chez Philippe's, Jose' Gutterez, has opened his own restaurant in Peabody Place: Encore. We ate there this week for the first time and I would highly recommend it to anyone. The atmosphere is very elegant and sleek, yet casual. The food was wonderful, and the service was great. I had the wild mushroom ravioli appetizer and the duck entree. Both were excellent. Here's a link to their website:

Judd Grisanti just opened a new restaurant, Spinidini. I have not eaten there, but I hear that it is good. I hear that it is a bit louder and has a younger crowd than you will find at Encore. Here is a link to their website with a bit of information:

I must admit that the dead fish eye on the front page seems an odd choice for an intro.

I have not been to Chez Phillipe since Jose left, and I haven't heard anything either way. Felicia Suzanne's and Stella are always good.

Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful dining experience in Memphis where ever you choose to go.

    1. I agree with agood. Encore is fantastic and not so tough on the wallet. I have had the burger and the Ahi Tuna. Both were fantastic. Otherwise, Stella is always good. Great Rack of Lamb and duck. Also, Grill 83 in the Madison Hotel has great food as well. I love the bone-in Ribeye.

      1. I haven't had good luck at Encore.

I think Stella is great. Felicia Suzanne's can also be very good. Meditrina can be fun, but isn't fancy. I also love Cielo, although it's not in the heart of downtown.

        1. Ike/Littleman is a fan of Jarrett's in East Memphis and Per Se in NYC based on prior posts. I think the only place downtown that would come close would be Chez Phillippe. Plus you don't have to walk around downtown. /sarcasm

          Encore is my personal favorite.

          1. I ate at Encore on my last trip to Memphis. It was fantastic. The service was impecable.
