Is Providence good? What's your fav these days?
Looking around, I did not see any recent posts about Providence. I am curious how it is being rated by real folks (with cash that is) and what the top mind blowing dining esperiences are these days in LA. I have been away.
We went last week. Service was a bit down (we went 6 times last year) from last year, but nothing awful. We got the full 9-tasting course. Scallops are to die for. The rest of the savory dishes were excellent except the lobster/beet course; the lobster was overcooked, alas.
We also got the 5 course desert menu (Jonathan Gold reviewed it last week) and it was superb.
We raved about it all last year, I think it dropped a tiny bit, but it's still excellent.
No recent posts on Providence? It seems like there's more talk about Providence than any other restaurant on these board, except maybe Mozza, the Nook or Sushi Zo. And a month ago it was rated LA's #1 restaurant in an annual Chowhounder poll, by a longshot.
Looking forward to the VDay report. I'm thinking of going there for the first time for my bday in a few weeks.
We were there two weeks ago. The food was good, the service was surprisingly not -- I suppose because we didn't order the tasting menu, our waiter decided to not pay any attention to us. The food is very good, but I wouldn't say spectacular. It doesn't hold a candle to Patina, in my opinion.
