  1. Thank you for the link! I actually teared up!!

    1. That is actually a *very* cool web site presentation

      1. Too bad the museum is closed for renovations at the moment. Nobody will get to see the kitchen for another year and a half!

        1. I made a pilgrimage to this exhibit when it opened at the Smithsonian. What strikes you is how low everything is, counters, chairs, table are all designed for someone much shorter than Julia. She must have had a perennial backache.

Julia had the counters in her kitchen raised because she was so tall. In the exhibit they must have lowered them. I've seen pictures of her kitchen in Massachusetts -- the counters look very high -- I am a short person and am aware of things like that.

Those ARE her very own kitchen counters. Her husband, Paul Child, designed them to fit her 6'2" frame and the entire kitchen is "to scale." If you were to walk into that kitchen, as small as you are, you'd be struck with a heavy "Honey, I Shrunk The Kids" kind of deja vu feeling of being a little kid again! It wasn't JUST the counter tops that were raised. '-)
