Hey, does anyone know of a decent place that's kinda quick near Bowery Ballroom (on Delancey between Christie and Bowery) ? Seeing a show tonight and thought we'd try to eat beforehand. A bit of a walk is fine. Thanks!--Hungry Animal

try congee village, on the corner of allen and delancey, especially if price is an issue. you'd be spending quite a bit at apizz or the orchard.

Congee Bowery is probably closer -- it's on Bowery and Rivington, a whole 1-2 blocks from the Bowery Ballroom. Additionally, Quickly Shabu Shabu (237B Grand Street) is right by there too.

How fast is fast? I'd try Dash Dogs (on Rivington) for hot dogs and sliders, Tiny's for sandwiches (also on Rivington), Cibao (on Clinton) for cuban sandwiches, or Rosario's for a slice (Orchard and Stanton). 88 Orchard is a nice cafe and they do pretty good sandwiches. Oh, and Falai Panetteria if you're out on Clinton St.

I had a bad case of the flu this past week and delivery from Congee Bowery (despite the phone answerer's failure to grasp my address) saved my life. Squid and ginger porridge is amazing for an upset stomach.

It's a bit late to be getting back to you, but my go to place when I go to Bowery is Lombardi's. Nothing beats a good, grown-up pizza and a beer before going to a show, presumably where you drink more! I also like Rice on Mott St. Recently I went to Loreley before Bowery, but my food was lackluster, and the service excruciatingly slow. These are a lot closer than the spots on Rivington. If I'm running late and I can't eat beforehand, I usually make the trek over to Bereket on Orchard and Houston after a show.

What I like to do is grab a delicious sandwich or salad or whatever from Bread on Spring Street and then head across the street and eat it at the bar at Sweet & Vicious with a cocktail or beer. Then head to the show. S&V doesn't serve food, and allow this sort of thing.
