Steak de Burgo: Des Moines

I have a hankering for Steak de Burgo tonight. Used to be on every menu in town and you can still find it, but it's not as good as it was at Johnny's Vet's Club. Any recommendations?

  1. Johnny's Italian Steakhouse, I know a small chain, but it is better than expected.

    1. My son likes the one at Chef's Kitchen.
Sam and Gabes is real good.
Haven't been in years, but Noah's used to have a house specialty, Porterhouse Steak with Colbert Sauce, that I liked better than De Burgo. If they still serve it, try it sometime.
Colbert is a butter based sauce with lemon and tarragon that really sets off the meat.
Let us know where you end up.

      1. Thanks for the ideas. Boy, I've been a teeny bit disappointed in Noah's the last couple of times I went there. When I moved here 15 years ago I thought Noah's was the greatest thing ever. I truly miss the roadhouse appeal of Johnny's. I spent some happy nights in the piano bar and loved the maze of rooms at the always-crowded restaurant. I may try Chef's Kitchen. I love that place. The hash browns are fantastic.

        1. Gino's still makes great steak deburgo.

          1. Finally got de Burgo last night at Christophers. Very good, with an excellent finish. I think Christophers is underrated by many. Service is good. Food is good. Atmosphere is pleasant.

Seriously, I had a very nice prime rib there some time ago. The last two times I tried to go, while also some time ago, the wait was 2 hours. They don't get lots of public props, but they sure weren't hurtin for regulars.
It was also the first place I ever had Chicken Parmegian. I've never had it again that could compare.
