Buttermilk?

I know that a substitute for buttermilk is to add 1 Tablespoon of vinegar and enough milk to make one cup. Can I use this substitute and use Skim Plus instead of whole milk?
Thanks

When baking I do the substitution but use lemon juice - it has a slightly different flavour but the same effect. No extra stuff in the cupbard and I always have milk and lemons!

But buttermimlk is aready nasty skim milk anyway. If you don't want to buy a quart or a pint if you can get it then buy the powdered stuff from Sacco made for baking. Don't reconstitute, just add the powder to the dry stuff and then add your liquids.

So let's say the recipe needs 1 cup buttermilk.

You use 1 cup Sacco in the dry ingredients, and then add a cup of water to the wet?

        Thanks for explaining.

no, you use however much it says, probably around 1/4 cup dry. but I second this recommendation, it works very well.

To equal 1 C. buttermilk use 4 TBS Sacco with the dry ingredients Add 1 C. water to the wet. 2.5 TBs to the dry...add 2/3 C. water to teh wet ingreds. Keep the Sacco in your refrigerator after opening.
