Shout Out for Whistle Stop in Safety Harbor

In all of my posts, I always seem to forget this place, but we went there again recently and I rediscovered just how good and unique their food is. If you've never been there, it is an old drive-in located on Main Street in Little ol' Safety Harbor. The menu is completely unique; Fried green tomatoes, fried pickles; sandwiches and wraps, elegant salads, excellent seafood with seasonings and preparations not seen anywhere else in these parts. Plus, all the seating is outdoors, under a cacaphony of coverings, in old chairs and tables from the local flea market. Elegant it is not. BUT, add live entertainment including open mike nights. Fabulous ice cream too. This place is almost a perfect Chouwhound destination, IMO.

Wonder if anyone else has any thoughts on the Whistle Stop.

  1. You are so right, it really is quite unique. We live in good ol' Safety Harbor, but don't get there as often as we should. Out of town visitor really enjoy the atmosphere.
The food is all so fresh, like real home cooking.

    1. We also love the Whistle Stop in Safety Harbo for a low key, inexpensive lunch or dinner. It has that "Key West laid back" feel and they have live music. Therefore, it is a great place to take out of towners for a bite or some ice cream after dinner. You can even take your dog with you in the outdoor area (leash required) which is always fun if you are pet lover like me. As far as the menu goes, I recommend the Florida Club Wrap if you are trying to eat some-what healthy. This may be hard to do with the yummy fried pickles and tomatoes that they offer. They have a website with the full menu so you can check them out before you go:

      Worth a try for sure!

      1. Since I live only two blocks away, you have a good chance of finding me there anytime there is music. I love all of the food, and now they have added a number of new draft beer selections, in addition to my favorite bottle-"Flying Dog". The finger style guitar players are there on Monday evenings, open mike on Wednesdays, and booked entertainment on the weekends, but my preferred music is the 3rd Tuesday of the month when Rebekah Pulley hosts "Girls with Guitars". If Lori is in the kitchen, you may want to try the soup too. - Funk on!
