Where do I get one of these in LA??

ipsedixit Feb 8, 2007 12:11 PM

A hot dog wrapped in bacon, deep-fried, and then topped with cheese.

I don't even know what it's called ... See picture below.

Thanks.

There's also Oki Dog on Fairfax in Hollywood between Santa Monica and Melrose. If they don't make that, I'd be surprised. I believe their special is a hotdog wrapped in pastrami with cheese. Kinda gross, but YUM!

Try a bulldog at Yaki's, corner of Main and Alamedia in the Burb.
FYI, St. Joseph's is about five blocks west. They have valet ICU parking.

Pinks? I think I saw something similar right next to the guy who was passed out on the concrete. Onions too, scattered everywhere! Oh, so sad -His dog looked great.

The only time I've seen something similar to that is in downtown/south central L.A. where the Mexican hot dog vendors sell similar items, hot dogs wrapped in bacon topped with grilled onions/peppers (no cheese). You can find those vendors around the Staples Center, Convention Center, or Coliseum during big events. But I do not think they deep fry the hot dog, nor do they give you cheese...

You will also find these vendors on the side streets off of Hollywood Bl., in the club areas (Cherokee, etc). No cheese, but mayo - and take the roasted jalapeno ONLY if you really mean it.

Try the Penmar Golf Course Grill, I'd think they'd be able to replicate it fairly well.

It's called the Triple Bypass Special, or TBS for short. I dunno where you could get it but I'd bet it would be pretty easy to replicate.

Is that really the name for this?

Yeah, most hot dogs are pretty easy to replicate, but then this calls for deep-frying, which is not an easy thing to do at home ...

                      Nope, I was just kidding.

It looks completely disgusting but tempting at the same time.

I'm assuming a hotdog in a deep fat frier, as a self-contained unit, would be potentially explosive given its physical properties - kinda like a depth charge. Please do not try this at home, but if you do I get the video rights.
