I usually pass on Mexican, but the aromas drifting out into the Parkchester neighborhood were too good to pass up. My meal began with freshly made corn tortilla chips with a red and green salsa. When I asked the waiter if the salsa was going to be too hot for me he shrugged and said, "I'm Mexican." Feeling a little apprehensive, I dipped my chip only to be pleasantly surprised at the range of flavours. The hot chocolate was made with freshly steamed milk. The beautiful decor and gracious welcome of the manager temped me to try Chicken Mole........ok....it's HOLY MOLE! Laughing, I can't describe the dish, but the variety of flavours dancing across my tongue had me grinning like an idiot and making lots of wonderfully appreciative sounds. I'll definitely be back to this new local restaurant Taqueria Tlaxcalli

I have enjoyed their "carne enchilada" (spicy pork) torta in the restaurant. In addition to the meat, the sandwich includes beans. crema, lettuce, a little cheese, avocado, and a choice between jalapeno or chipotle peppers (I always go for the chipotle). This IS spicy, but also very delicious. They also make an incredible chicken soup: loads of chicken meat, rice, cilantro, a little carrot, some corn on the cob, all in a rich, deeply flavored chicken broth. Perfect for these cold days.

One caveat: do not, under any circumstances, get delivery. I teach in a nearby school (which one of the owner's daughters attends). On a recent Friday I called at 11:30 with an order of soup and a torta to be delivered at 12:30. My lunch time ends at 1:18, but on Fridays I have a prep period after lunch, so I am free until 2:00. After repeated calls and assurances that it would arrive very soon, my order finally came at 1:45, leaving me almost no time to eat. It was delicious, though.
