Horizons for All

Based on raves here on the CB, I've been wanting to try HOrizons for quite a while. Certainly lived up to high expectations. I am one serious meat eater, but everything I ordered, and tasted from my friend's plate was intensely flavorful and interesting.

I chose pepercorn crusted seared tofu with balsamic black butter, sherry creamed oyster mushrooms, truffled parsnip purre, with piquillo pepper and English pea salad. Sure wish I could make tofu like that! ($19)

We shared a Yucatan chopped spinach salad, which had all sorts of good things in it, with a piled-high California type presenation. ($9). The root vegetable pureed soup was perfect to my taste. ($6).

Excellent coffee, nice service, yummy desserts, but not your typical dessert either completed a wonderful meal. My only regret was the flight of stairs. For a small restaurant to have two bars, and only high stools/tables on the first floor area was quite surprising.

Don't prejudge vegan food--this was wonderful, even for meat eaters like me. The food was quite substantial, but not calorie laden, as in cream sauces, etc. Parking lot across the street made it easy, but there was on-street parking also, near 7th and Fitzwater.

I used to go to Horizons all the time when it was located in Willow Grove. Everything I ever had was delicious. I haven't been to the new location yet, but miss it a lot!!!
