Do most supermarkets carry a wide assortment of Ethnic Gourmet frozen dinners like SS & Shaws or do I need to go to TJ's or WF's?

I find the local chains often have a natural/organic section that sells ethnic gourmet frozen entrees (e.g., Shaw's/Star's Wild Harvest section). My local SS's organic secion offers some of the same entrees offered by TJ and WF (albeit a very slim selection). Personally, with the exception of some Mexican offerings from TJ, the few I've had from WF and elsewhere were pretty awful, so I can't imagine the ones at local chains to be any worse. I still default to local ethnic grocers and their frozen foods, if I must go that route.

I agree about local ethnic grocers, but happened to see someone with an EG box & didn't know if they were any good in a pinch.

I've had a few of the Ethnic Gourmet frozen meals. They aren't great, but really no frozen meal is. I find these more tolerable than most. The chicken tikka masal was much better than the tofu pad thai.

The Porter Square Shaw's carries them. I can't remember about other locations.

yeah, the frozen pad thai is really bad, but that's not surprising. indian is the way to go. it ranges from OK to delicious. i would check out some of the brands at indian food stores (like shalimar in central square).
