Cafe for Wine and Reading?

On these artic days, i've been looking for a new comfy place where i can have a glass of red wine in the late afternoon and read&write for a couple hours...Mud on 9th St is ok but they play the music too loud...any other suggestions, preferably downtown?...comfy chairs a big plus...could be a cafe or bar or restaurant, as long as it's somewhere where you can stay a while reading and where the wine is at least decent-to-good...

you might consider the lobby bar at the union square W hotel: sofas, easy chairs, good vibe.

A bit further south than Mud but have you tried Lotus Club?

If only the Housing Works Cafe had better wine it would be exactly what you are looking for.
