Cozy french restuarant

  • 9

I am looking for a french restaurant for day after valentines to go to with best friend. I have Le Gigot in mind because the food is good, it's small and extremely cozy. Might want to try something new, any suggestions?

  1. Two places: Le Madeleine, on Ninth and 43rd; and Lucien's, on First and First.

    1. Gascogne, on 8th Av., b/t 17th & 18th Sts. - http://www.gascognenyc.com

      Cosette, on 33rd St., b/t 3rd & Lex. - http://www.cosette-bistro.com

Cosette is reliable and very comfortable; there's a new chef at Le Mediteranee on Second near 50th who is also supposed to be good

      2. La Luncheonette on 10th Avenue & 18th Street (212) 675-0342 has delicious French food and would be my choice. The small front room is cozy and so is the slightly larger back room.

        1. The food at Gascogne is delicious, and perfect for this weather. Think Cassoulet!

          1. I'd highly recommend AOC Bedford in the West Village. We've been there several times and have felt as if we were in Paris. A bit pricey, but well worth it. Here's a link to their website:

            1. Hey, I love Le Bilboquet, UES, Metisse, UWS, Quatorze Bis, UES, and it's not so cozy but it's my favorite French food in the city : Balthazar.

              1. I love Jean Claude. Its on Sullivan street b/w prince/houston. Really great food, small, casual, candlelit.. owner is a doll and the food is cheap.. but they only take cash

                1. On a recent visit to La Luncheonette, my chestnut soup had a big piece of plastic in it. Yuck. Also, going all the way out to the West Side Highway in these temperatures is not so cozy! I love Le Gigot as well and have heard good things about La Madeleine.
