Colo Springs reccs (including Broadmoor)
I will be visiting Colorado Springs in several months for a week or so. For five of those days I will be attending a conference at the Broadmoor--most of the meals during the conference will be provided, but I will have time for 3 or 4 meals either there or closeby (within a couple miles) Have never stayed at a 5-star resort before, and generally cannot afford to eat at such places (a true Chowhound), but this will be a once-in-a-decade-or-two opportunity, so if anyone is familiar with the restaurants at the Broadmoor, please advise which are the best value/quality combo, and which might be overpriced. I will have 2 and 1/2 days on my own with a rental car, and would like to have some reccs for any places in CS or w/in 25-30 miles. A good breakfast place would be nice (that's one meal I can splurge on, usually). I have heard good buzz on Conway's Red Top for a burger, El Tesoro for Mexican and several for Blue Star and Texas Tavern, Mollica's (Italian deli). Anything unique would be given extra consideration. I'm not real big on seafood or Italian, but like fish, Chinese and Thai food. One more question--if I drive up Pike's Peak (or take the cog railway) is there any food at the top worth having or better to eat somewhere else after returning?
Thanx for any and all recommendations.

I was at the resort in September and ate at the Charles Court but it is more like the Summit that you will pay about $30.00 per entree. The Golden Bee on the resort property is supposed to be good, but I think that is more because of the Pub atmosphere. If the weather permits and you are there on a Sunday, their brunch is supposed to be very good.

There USED to be something memorable in Pueblo -- the Steel City Diner -- but it closed recently. Landlord greed is the report. In Colo Springs, try Sencha, Summit at the Broadmoor. In Manitou Springs, the Cliff House is tops. Top of Pikes Peak is famous for donuts, tho' I don't know why. Dress VERY warmly, be prepared for wind and enjoy the view. Wander around the gift shoppe filled w/ souvenir schlock. But don't expect to eat there Better to stop at Par Avion beforehand for takeout something.

Mollicas is good. THere's nothing worth eating up the peak, although you might want to hit Manitou springs.. La Casita on 8th st is memorable for their wonderful tortillas. Another favorite is the Silver Pond on North Academy, although that may be too far for you. There's an amazing German Bakery called Wimbergers 2321 Bott Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80904 that has the most amazing pretzel rolls and salt rolls. They have all sorts of sausages and typical german foods. If you're a beer person, head over to Bristol Brewery 1647 South Tejon Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80906 and get a Laughing Lab. Phantom Canyon Downtown isn't bad either.
