Dinner before performance at Carnival Center

diablita FL Feb 5, 2007 04:35 PM

We're going to the Carnival Center of the Performing Arts tomorrow night at 8 to hear Paco de Lucia. We'd like to have dinner somewhere in the area before-hand.

A previous thread recommended Soyka for their shuttle, but they don't offer it anymore. What delicious restaurants do you recommend in close proximity to the center? My friends and husband are fairly adventurous eaters. I am a very adventurous vegetarian.

(If Michy's is a good option, do you think there's a chance I can get a same-day 6pm reservation if I call right when they open tomorrow?)

I'm a fan of Michy's although there's been mixed commentary on this board from others. Same day reservation at Michy's will probably be tough, they always seem to be booked. However I've often shown up early and promised not to linger at the table and have usually been able to get seated (there's also a bar area if you don't mind eating there and get there early enough). BTW, when you say close, hope you recognize that Michy's is about 4-5 miles north of the Carnival Center on Biscayne.

Another nice option is Canela Cafe around 50th & Biscayne, sort of funky place with some good tapas and cuban food. Uva (right across the street from Michy's) does nice sandwiches and I think is expanding their menu to include other stuff as well. Tony Chan's Water Club does good Chinese and is very close to the Carnival Center in the Grand. You could also go to Sheba's (Miami Ave. & 40th, just off the causeway) for good but pricey (for what it is) Ethiopian.

Agree with all of Frod's recs.
Only place I can think of not mentioned is Karu & Y which is fairly exorbitant but you get a free ride to the concert if you opt for the $85 pre theater dinner.

Thank you! I'll look into all of those options.
And yes, a bit north is ok as we will be driving down from Boca, and figure we'll eat, then park at the old Omni. I don't think we'll do the $85 pre theater dinner, though.
