Oops asked about another place alread posted, so I'll change this and asked if anyone has been to Miette's new candy store.

Here's the mention in the Chronicle.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2007/01/31/FDG7BNR1E21.DTL

The Miette website says of the candy gallery ...

"apothecary jars are filled, floor to ceiling, with imported boiled sweets, Dutch licorice, salt water taffy, the finest chocolates, buttery caramels, and so much more."

Nice photos of the shop too.

Seems like Miette also has online ordering so you can get French macarons and
Dragees mail-ordered.

I dropped by the place briefly en route to Blue Bottle. I didn't have much time to linger, but it's a very cheerful, airy sort of place.

I ended up getting a tasty chocolate fig ($0.50 each) and then a "truffle pig" (which I think was $4? something in that vicinity). The truffle pig is actually a rich candy bar, which is every so often punctuated with a richer truffle part. It's not that huge, but pretty rich for a candy bar, so I needed to eat it at a few different sittings.

Supposedly in the future (not sure about what time scale), they will also be offering some things beyond just candy -- such as cupcakes.

Yes, been there and my friends and I enjoyed root beer barrels, horhounds and cinnamon candies while watching film noir at the Castro. You can buy a lot of hard candy for pennies.

Stopped by today and really liked the shop. It has lots of interesting hard candies and bars. There were a few plates of different cupcakes. ALAS, cotton candy is only sold on the weekend. The current flavor is rose geranium.

The staff was really welcoming and helpful. This seems like a pleasant little shop ... an updated penny candy store.

It is slightly off the main drag ... across the street from Flippers hamburgers, sort of. There's a new restaurant going in on the corner on that block.

So ... anyone tried the cotton candy yet? And ... ok ... I'm giving Miette another chance ... what is the best flavor of cupcake to order. Any to avoid?
