Just wondering if anyone knows about an Armenian bakery in SF. I heard there was a fantastic one there but have been unsuccessful locating it when I've visited. My husband, who grew up in the area, thinks it might have closed. Anyone know about this?

You probably heard about Sheherazade, a wonderful Armenian bakery where they even stretched their own phyllo, but the phyllo baker/owner retired and they closed a long time ago. I haven't been able to find fresh stretched phyllo anywhere in San Francisco (or in the Bay Area) since then.

Thanks for this Nancy--yes, that sounds like the place I heard about. My grandmother used to make her own dough. Its too bad the bakery is no loger around. Probably was owned by an Armenian immigrant like my GM.

Maybe Haig's on Clement? I am not sure if they bake anything on-site, but they have a variety of Aremenian items for sale.
