Balsamic (good stuff)
I need a great Balsamic vinegar. Not the runny liquid in the average grocery, but the good stuff. I ran into a thick and tasty version in Lyon, France and would love to have it at home for the occasional zip. I would rather not go broke purchasing it, but am willing to accept any good advice.
Ditto Tamura's - I counted about 5 different types of balsamico BUT none were what I consider the best aged (don't think any even had an age noted). However, Williams Sonoma in Ala Moana has exactly what you are looking for - it ain't cheap, but you probably already know that! Tamura's were all in the $7 - $8 range & WS will probably start around $12 or so & go straight up from there... I'd start at the bottom (it will still be wonderful compared to what you buy in an average grocery store & work your way up until you find something you really like. Now if Tamura's only carried burrata, I'd really be in heaven there!
re: torta basilica
Yes, W/S would have a good one. R. Field in the Foodland (Kailua & Beretania)
would certainly have what you are seeking. Hit or miss is Island Epicure in
the Y. Hata restaurant supply building on Sand Island Rd. they often will have
amazing things for really cheap and sometimes not a whole lot of selection. It's
also a good place to buy kitchen supplies in a warehouse setting, I got a great
giant cooling rack and other such things at good prices.
