Picking someone up at Jacksonville, FL airport, from Gainesville, FL and looking for suggestions for places to eat.

Hi, I am picking someone special up from Jacksonville, FL airport, and looking for decent place to eat, easy to get to from the airport, and preferably in direction of heading back towards Gainesville, FL area. We prefer seafood, Thai, Indian, vegetarian, reasonable cost and fairly quick service as we have 2 hour drive ahead of us. Will be picking him up Feb. 14 around 6 pm. Thanks for suggestions! Eve

    You would be on the West Side (of Jax.) Those categories don't exist there. Only "reasonable cost and fairly quick service" at the Waffle House at I-10 and 301. I think you can get a vegan waffle too.

      You could always head south through Jacksonville and return to Gainesville via Green Cove Springs.

      I suggest Pom's Thai Bistro in San Marcos. Great Thai food, easy access to I-90...nice spot to start off Valentine's weekend with your "someone special."

      I also adore the French Pantry for fabulous food at a good price, but usually have a long line (lunch only.)

        The quickest way to get from JAX to Gainesville is I-295 to I-10 to I-75 south. It's about 80 miles and should take less than 2 hours. Not worth a detour to eat at a nice place in Jacksonville. I'd suggest having dinner in Gainesvillle - or - if you're starved for some reason - getting a quick bite right near the airport (Waffle House? - I think there's one on the airport access road). Note that if if you through Green Cove Springs (which is the way I usually go from St. Johns County) - you will be dealing with a lot of dark 2 lane roads instead of the interstates. Frankly - I can't recommend the route at night unless necessary, Robyn

          Hey the area that you just described for the drive is pretty much void of what you seem to be looking for. Gainesville is pretty small I would recommend just going back into town to eat. Places fitting that description would be
          Merlion http://www.menuwall.com/fl/gainesvill...
          Indian Cuisine http://www.menuwall.com/fl/gainesvill...
          Or Saigon Legend (i cant find their menu on a website

          )

          Otherwise you are going to have to get into Jax beyond the west side to find much good.

          not far from the airport, on airport rd, there is chili's,sticky fingers, longhorn steak house, cracker barrel and ruby tuesdays. all of those places should be easy to get to and fairly quick.....

            Both San Marco and the Riverside neighborhoods are right off I-95 & I-10 and full of great options. There are also, however, two wonderful Thai restaurants right off I-295 in Orange Park. One is more upscale(and romantic) with white table cloths and decent wine called Thai Garden near the Orange park mall on Blanding Blvd - really right off the 295. The other is much less expensive and faster with no real atmosphere but the food is just as good. It is called Thai Bistro and is on US17 South not far off 295. I suggest Thai Garden for a romantic V-day dinner.

              Depends on the time. For a supremely greasy southern breakfast I'd recommend June's Diner at the Marrietta exit off of I-10. The 301-24 Coffeehous in Waldo has magnificent chicken salad sandwiches. Slowing down to go there might spare you a speeding ticket.

              The closest place to the airport that I could recommend is the Pig 'Bar-B-Q on Lem Turner Rd., about 12 minutes from the airport.

              Generally the path from the airport to Gainesville is pretty bereft of anything but dreadful fast food. I am boycotting all businesses in Bradford County since I got a ticket in Lawtey (another notorious speed trap).

                That's funny. I am boycotting Waldo for the same reason. And don't take the advice to go all the way to I 75 to get to Gainesville. That is insanity.

                For food along the way, I usually go to Huddle House in Starke. The cofee at the Pilot at I 10/301 is pretty good. There is really nothing notable along the way
