Key Largo?

I will be flying into Miami on Friday night for a long weekend in Key Largo. I am looking for places to try over the weekend for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We will have a car so we will be able to drive around a reasonable distance. I would love to know some of the local, can't miss spots as well as some nicer dinner options. Also, what will be open for us on Friday night when we arrive? We land in Miami around 9:30 so wouldn't be to Key Largo until pretty late.

  1. We live in Islamorada. That's a little south of Key Largo. Breakfast is Mangrove Mikes or Midway Cafe (ecclectic coffee house) in Isla, or Mrs. Mac's in KL. Lunch: Buzzard's Roost on Garden Cove, Mrs. Mac's (burgers, etc.), Denny's (Cuban) in KL; Morada Bay or again Midway Cafe; Hungry tarpon on Upper Matecumbe; for lunch or dinner Lazy Day's at the south end of Isla; Dinner: Ziggie and Maddog (steaks) Lazy Days, Morada Bay (outrageous sunsets) or Fish House and Encore in KL for fish. What else are you interested in?

    1. Thanks so much for your suggestions! Will any of those places be serving food when we get in around 11:00?

      1. For a nice dinner out I would recomment Marker 88 in Islamorada, about 12 miles from Key Largo. Excellent food, is a little pricey. Also had great martinis and a wonderful winelist.

        1. Probably not. You should eat in Miami

          1. So after all of that, we didn't make it to any of those places! The first night we went to a little bar across the street from the hotel. I can't remember the name of it but it seemed like a definate local hangout. We just grabbed burgers and beers and it was the perfect quick stop. For lunch the next day we ate at Chad's. Great sandwiches- homemade bread, huge portions. One dinner we ate at Snook's on the water. The food was great and the view was spectacular but it was a little pricey for what you get. The second dinner we ate at Hobo
s which was perfect bar food. We had great food, great service, and paid a third of what we had the night before. We had breakfast at the Key Largo Coffee house where the coffee was great and stopped at a fabulous ice cream place near the movie theater in Tavernier. All in all - a great trip!
