Where to eat in Medicine Hat
Too bad that I missed your e-mail by a year. If you are coming to Medicine Hat again, you may want to try the following:
Beefeater for steak
Thai Orchid Room for Thai - better decor and service but I am not talking about Canoe here. A few interesting wines.
For Vietnamese, the downtown Vietnamese restaurant (Thuy Tien Vietnamese Restaurant) is better for taste but not much decor.
Good luck to your husband.
I get down to Medicine Hat from time to time but usually only on overnites and I cannot think of any place than stands out for dining.
Like many prairie towns especially those which, like Medicine Hat, are on the Trans-Canada it has expanded with the customary urban sprawl of box stores and chain restaurants.
I had dinner at Bistro M which replaced Mama's...at least that is what I think it was called...in the Medicine Hat Lodge. Steak house has replaced Italian. To be fare, the food I had was decent but not extraordinary. I have had lunches in a number of roadhouses or typical spots in years gone by. You know the "drill" , steak sandwiches, beef dips, etc..
I will inquire the next time I speak with my contacts in Medicine Hat and will post if they have suggestions.
I had lunch in a nice Vietnamese restaurant but that would not impress someone coming for Toronto or elsewhere. Typical Asian-Canadian cafe with a minimal amount of decoration but well priced lemon grass chicken and Pho and the like.
