Vegetarian Malaysian dishes?

I'd like to try Nyonya or another Malaysian restaurant, but does Malaysian cuisine have anything good for vegetarians? No seafood, which means no fish sauce, no shrimp paste.

I don't want to eat "Buddhist delight", which is usually just stir-fried or steamed mixed vegetables. I want to try out specifically Malaysian dishes!

  1. try the kang kung. Ask for it in fermented bean curd sauce (Cantonese way of saying it is fu yu) vs. the usual shrimp paste. Tell them no meat too.
