Ludwig's at the Sonnenalp Resort, Vail
Just wanted to report that the hotel, spa, and restaurant are 100% top notch. Just got back and had an amazing time.
Ludwig's restaurant was perfect. The service was friendly and professional. We lacked for nothing.
Fois Gras two ways was melt in your mouth excellent. Salads were crisp, fresh, and well presented. Vegetarian risotto was superb, and the perfect consistancy.
Lobster thermador, venison loin, lamb, and Dover sole were all delicious.
The wine list was great, many choices in the inexpensive to mid-line range.
After dinner, sit in the lounge and listen to the entertainment.
Very adult way to spend your evening after a tiring day on the slopes.

I should also add that if you book a spa session, you can use the rest of the facilities all day. Indoor and outdoor hot tubs, indoor/outdoor pool, well stocked gym, sauna, steamroom, showers, lockers, fireplace pit for relaxing. We spent at least 3 hours there. A Sonnenalp facial was 50 minutes and cost $135. Worth every dime.
Sonnenalp over all is very nice. Also go to the lively, more casual eatery there - Bully Ranch. Apres Ski Mudslides!
Just came back from Vail where I spent a lovely afternoon (after injuring my knee on the slopes) using the jacuzzi and pool and relaxing by the fire before a massage. Then had a burger at the Bully Ranch. It was probably my best meal in Vail! Perfectly cooked with the crispy onions on top, delicious onion rings. I was underwhelmed by La Bottega and Sweet Basil (sorry, I know it's very popular here).
