Chinese dumplings ... where?

I miss the dumplings that I have had for many years at Houston's Lai Lai Dumpling House. Is there someplace in Austin with a wide selection of pork, chicken, shrimp, beef dumplings?

  1. no.

i grew up in houston and am familiar with lai lai's. i personally think that for houston with such a large chinese community, it still has a long way to go.

best wontons (in broth with/without noodles) i've had are at din ho. i like mine with noodles and roast duck on top! wontons in red oil at asia cafe and china palace are pretty good. the potstickers i had at TC Noodle house were decent, only because the filling seemed to be like shu mai filling, which i like. i don't know of any place that really does boiled or baskets of steamed dumplings like lai lai. most come as potstickers on the appetizer menu and are just mediocre. T&S's potstickers are ok. there is no single establishment i know of in austin that has a variety of dumplings like you are looking for. sad.

    1. I had the potstickers at T&S last weekend and thought they were absolutley delicious. Lots of meat filling and pan fried just right.

      1. Try the Zhong dumplings at Asia Market. They are Sichuan Style, so they are hot and spicy and very good.

        1. I'm on the same quest to find good dumplings - not potstickers or buns. I think that we're just gonna have to start making them ourselves.
