What did i make? Ice cream?Gelato?
I'm in LA. It seems that milk is good here. So, I've been testing different heavy cream for a while. A big batch of Alta Dena heavy whipping creme was hand-whipped in anticipation of the strawberry shortcake (the freshly baked biscuit type) with strawberries from the farmer's market (in January!). Two days later, I found a big bowl of whipped cream in the freezer. It still went well in coffee. But when I took a melon baller and started scooping out these mini scoops of snow white richness, I thought to build a little pile of snow balls and topped them with the left over strawberry that's been marinated in salt, balsamic vinegar and sugar.
OK, I don't know why we need ice cream machines? Certainly I'm not going to buy one now. This was delicious, light, pure, simple ...and..well, delicious!
What did I make? I stopped whipping earlier than usual, so it wasn't too firm when it went into the freezer. I had thought they say cream doesn't freeze well...?
