Anybody tried this place?

I have walked by and it seems pleasant. The menu is OK, nothing spectacular. I wonder how well they execute it.

  1. I was there about a year ago and my recollection is that it was nothing memorable. Considering the prices I expected more. Also the hostess wasn't especially friendly. But it was only once; I sensed that if they got to know you it would be a very inviting space and the dining room is pretty. In short, it's fine but I'd never go out of my way for it.

    1. I've only been once, about a year ago as well, and really enjoyed it. Cool space, great cocktails, lovely New American food with occasional Greek touches, very good service, reasonable prices. My only nit is that the wines seem a bit pricey. I'd go more often if it weren't in the burbs.

      1. I've been there a couple of times for cocktails, no food. The bartender was very friendly and interacted with everyone at the bar. It's not a large bar area, but he made small talk with everybody and made drink and food recommendations as well.

I've noticed that they changed their menu slightly and now break it down by small, medium, and large plates. I'm less than 10 mins away, so it might be time to try them out.

        1. Just talking to a very chowish friend who said the food was very good but the service was terrible (example - one of their party ordered a mixed drink and was served something different without being told "we're out of xx liquor that you requested"). Part of her angst was her grouchy dad bitching about the service the entire time (and the whole next day) so perhaps if you are at dinner with more patient folk it would not be so bad...

          1. I really love Ariadne. A relaxing atmosphere and very good food. I do prefer sitting at the bar or at one of the bar tables. The dining room is too fancy for me. Great, strong drinks, especially on Martini Mondays ($5 Martinis). I like the burger, fries, steak frites, cheese plate, and many of the other small and medium plates.

            1. The complaints about inconsistent service are right on. It seems like most times I go in there some staff member is scolding me for something. (Examples, hanging coat on the back of a chair; scolding us for not having a reservation and hoping for a table; scolding us for thinking our warmed dessert should be served warm and in a timely fashion; scolding notes posted in their bathroom). Scolding is very odd for a restaurant at this price point. But when they stop scolding, the food can be very good. It also can be inconsistent (like undercooked squid in their usually delicious grilled squid app). So if I go these days I have to hope they're having a good day and not a cranky day. Because when they're good, they're very nice. But when they're bad, they're really not worth the money.

              1. same thoughts - too expensive, too worried about its "look" too poorly serviced to match better than average food. seems like a good chef in the kitchen but amateurs running the front of the house
