source of banania in la . . .

banania--you know, that classic? french chocolate banana drink for breakfast. On the recent trip to paris, we introduced elder pup to banania and of course, it was a hit. We brought back two of the biggest boxes we could find but <shudder> box one is getting near the bottom. Thank heavens that younger pup is blase about it!

so, aside from a quick and highly unaffordable trip back to paris or begging traveling friends to tuck a box in their suitcase, is there anywhere in LA that sells Banania?

I was thinking surfas but haven't had time to check it out.

      what is the difference between instant and traditional?

      from looking at the boxes, it looks like we were drinking instant in paris but honestly, that was all that they had.

        There are at least two ingredients that come in instant and noninstant varieties. My best guess is that the instant uses dutch processed cocoa, which dissolves with less heat and stirring than standard cocoa powder. Another possibility is that the noninstant uses noninstant milk powder. Regardless, the noninstant would just require whisking while heating, or you can mix it in a blender before heating.

    2. I would try Monsieur Marcel at the Farmer's market. If you find it there, it will cost you an arm and a leg though.
