Ammonium Carbonate?

poppasmiths Jan 30, 2007 09:36 AM

Does anyone know where in LA I can get ammonium carbonate in order to make some old italian ammonia cookies?

I don't know if it'd be available in a commercial bakery, or a pharmacy, or online anywhere... but if anyone knows where I can find some around here I would greatly appreciate the help.

Thank you!

Surfas in Culver City has it.

We make Swedish drommar with it -- and we buy it at Surfas, though you can often get it in pharmacies.

Sometimes called Baking Ammonia. Like the poster above said try calling Surfas or Penzeys.

I'm pretty sure they have it in Chinese grocery stores too because its an ingredient in those Chinese donuts, but I think you'd have to be able to read Chinese or speak it so you can ask for it.

For the amount you might need you might try an Italian or Swedish bakery.

I'm sure you can find it online...like King Arthur's Flour http://www.kingarthurflour.com/shop/d...

In that case, an Italian Bakery would be Eagle Rock Italian Bakery and a Swedish Bakery would be Berolina Bakery.
