In a short jaunt from the Sherman Oaks area (a scant 40 miles up the road) is a Kosher Winery called Herzog. They not only have a tasting room but a restaurant as well. Although of the faith I have never been a big fan of Kosher wines. The restaurant on the other hand is incredible. You sit in a dining room and could swear you were sitting in one of the top end restaurants in Napa. I had the pureed Jerusalem artichoke soup that was stunning. I then moved on to a boudin blanc sausage served with grilled red onions and red bell pepper on ciabbata with the side salad in a citrus vinegarette. The sandwich was top class. Wife ordered the Ono sandwich. The Ono was coated in corn meal and lightly fried, also served on ciabatta with greens and mayo. Wife doesn't drink but I do. I had a glass of the Russian River Chardonnay, a half a glass of the Lodi Zin gris (blush) and a Lodi Syrah. Of them all the Syrah was the best of the wines. This place is worth the trip just for the restaurant and the tasting room gift selection. What a nice way to spend a Sunday lunch.
