BBQ-Gasburg Virginia

Certainly off the beaten track, but if you are ever in Gasburg, Virginia (on Lake Gaston), I recommend a stop at the Pea Hill Country Store. The BBQ is some of the best I've had in a long time. It is just small chunks of smoked meat served on a bun. Perfect smoke taste--not too heavy. There are various bottled sauces to put on the meat. A good mix of outside brown and not too fatty. Not traditional, but very tasty. Also, some of the best ice cream I've ever had in my life--comes from somewhere in western Va. Something like 18 percent butter fat. Yum. Unfortunately, there are no restroom facilities, but there was a quick stop nearby. There are only a couple of tables, but there are chairs and benches out on the porch. I didn't write the first time I was there, but I've just had the meat again and it is just as good as I remembered.
