Caren's Wine Bar

I've read a couple of short reviews on Chowhound. Has anybody been there recently? Is it any good?

Anybody got a copy of the menu by any chance?

  1. Haven't been, but I've heard decent things about it. If you google it, you get their website with their menu:

    1. Haven't been in about a year, but I have fond memories. Can't honestly recall anything that I've ordered there (and I've been more than once), but I remember feeling pleasantly satisfied and wouldn't hesitate to go back if dining in Yorkville (which I think is a bit of a dining desert in Toronto). Caren's is warm and cozy sans typical Yorkville attitude.

      1. Thanks for the scoop Pescatarian and Rabbit - will definitely try it out soon and report back.

SharkfinSoup: Did you end up going? What did you think? Please let us know! :)

Sorry! Yes we went to Caren's last Friday night. We were suitably impressed by the wine list. Loved the fondue but wish it was bigger than appetizer size (being such a fan of cheese in any form - especially of the molten variety).

The cheese plates are amazing! It's the only place in the city where they actually give you decent sized pieces of cheese! Yum!

Thoroughly enjoyable evening, funky warm ambience with excellent service.

No need to apologize, thanks for the report!

Caren's sounds promising-- I'm heading there this weekend, and will post my thoughts too.

        2. I had the mac and cheese at Caren's last week (lunch) and was blown away. It's around $15 but worth every penny. HUGE portion and covered and baked in 3 different cheeses (heavy on the asiago), parsley, and chili flakes (at first I thought it was weird to use actual chili flakes but it worked so well).

If it wasn't incredibly gluttonous I would eat this every week.

That's a pretty old thread you resurrected there, dude. For anyone interested in recent threads related to Carens, click on the place link......

Thank JamieK, I'm relatively new to this and the tip is much appreciated. I just had to rave about the mac and cheese :)

Carens is a favourite of mine. Haven't tried the mac & cheese yet. Next time!
