Suggestions for B/L/D in Montreal and QC

Hi,
Will be spending 2 days each in Montreal and QC in March and wanted some great suggestions on where to get great food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For lunch or dinner, I love restaurants that have long countertops, similar to Tadich Grill and Swans Oyster Depot in San Francisco. Thanks.

    Howdy!

For breakfast, I would suggest Bagel's etc (4320 Saint Laurent) or Chez Claudette (351 Laurier E).

Bagel's etc. has a nice ambiance but a friend of mine who's a regular at Bagel's etc. does admit that the food is even better at Beauty's, nearby. Beauty's is more of a long-standing institution than Schwartz's, since the original owner still works there.
For a different take on breakfast, I find it's hard to beat Byblos, on Laurier. Iranian omelettes, bread, jams, turkey porridge...
For brunch, one of my favourite places so far within walking distance of a metro station is Coo Rouge on Amherst.

Lemeac is very nice, as is Holder Brasserie on McGill on the edge of old Montreal, top bistro in the city is still L'express on St-Denis and it has a great counter. In QC be careful, it has become a veritable tourist trap, but you;ll do well at La Cremaillere, La Grolla, Toast, L'Utopie, le cafe du clocher pencher

Where on Saint-Paul is Le Restaurant? Do you have an adress? Whoever names their place Le Restaurant in the age of Google is not gifted in business.

          Could it be this one?

          S Le Restaurant
          Cuisine méditerranéenne
          125, St-Paul Ouest
          Vieux-Montréal
          (514) 350-1155

          In the St-Sulpice Hotel?

          Just a guess...

We went to S Le Restaurant recently (within the last four or five months) and we were incredibly disappointed with the ravioli stuffed with duck (from the table d'hôte menu--reasonably priced, admittedly, between $25 and $28): it was oily and bland. The service was good but one of our dinner mates thought he was ordering the chef's creation from the table d'hôte menu but accidentally ordered a $40 main dish instead (which was close in name to the table d'hôte dish); and although his main dish was apparently good (I can't remember what it was) and this was probably a misunderstanding, the bill was a surprise, especially given that he had ordered an appetizer and dessert thinking they were included. I wouldn't recommend it. It was pretty empty for a weekend night as well.

We were just visiting Montreal this past weekend and found a fantastic restaurant in Old Montreal - Le Restaurant on St. Paul Ouest. It had a $16 fixe prix menu for a three course lunch. There were other options on the menu that you could purchase at an additional cost, but I took the chef's suggestions and was not disappointed. I had cream of vegetable soup, a 5 cheese pasta dish and panna cotta with strawberries that made me wish it was polite to lick the bowl. One of my friends had a salmon tartare appetizer with shrimp and endive that she was raving about.

They also have a fantastic wine list. I had a trebbiano white by the glass that was delicious.

Au Pied de Cochon, of course.

              Montreal:

For countertop eating with attitude, go to Lemeac on Laurier avenue. French bistro cuisine, very loud restaurant, it is open every day. Always crowded, so get a reservation.
