Good French Bistro style places

I'm curious to try French bistro style dining in Toronto/GTA - my own understanding of what bistro style cooking is limited to the idea that it's an unpretentious restaurant with dependable (but imaginative) cooking and moderately priced (relative to a fancy French restaurant). Is that an outdated definition or simply less applicable in T.O.? Any suggestions?

    Hi,
You should try Merlot, Bloor west & Royal york.

Thanks for both recommendations. I read some of the posts on Batifole and will certainly plan on trying it!

Do a search on this board for Batifole. I think it is exactly what you're looking for.

My first pick would be Niagara Street Cafe. One of the best value of the city, IMO.
