superbowl/birthday cake

We are having a superbowl party, and since my bf's birthday is a couple of days later I want to surprise him with a birthday cake. He is a huge Colts fan, and I would like to incorporate that somehow. The only idea I had was a cake with white frosting and blue piping, but I was looking for something more fun. Any and all creative ideas are welcome. TIA

  1. Lizzy,
A cake can be easily sculpted into many shapes with a bit of practice once it is chilled. Footballs, helmets, stadiums are very easy and if you are feeling creative it is possible to do 3D busts and mascots

Cut a very rough shape of the cake from a sheet cake or multiple rounds, apply the fillings and chill. Once the cakes have firmed in the refrigerator, you can make the fine cuts to shape and apply a scratch coat of icing to seal the surface. The cakes can be wrapped and stored chilled in this state for a few days.
I like to wait till the night before to apply the final buttercreams/fondant and piping, but your situation may vary.

    I hope this helps.
