Best Panini - Astoria - Il Bambino

  • j

Recently stumbled a new little cafe on 31st Ave between 34th and 35th streets. So delicious! Great Latte and food to die for. Homemade soups, maple steamed milk. The offerings are wonderfull! My friend and I had to share cause we couldn't decide on any one specific thing. We had a beet salad with arugula, walnuts and goat cheese, followed by two generous paninis. One of italian sausage, hot cherry pepper slices and fontina cheese. The other: roasted tomatoes, fresh mozzerella and basil pesto. SO good! They have the menu on line:

  1. Wow! This is just down the block from me. Now thanks to this review I'll have to check it out!

    1. I'm in Astoria often and will certainly visit. I'm impressed with the Menu. This is exactly what we need in Jackson Heights but I have little hope.

      1. can't say enough good things about this place. what a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. went for dinner with friends weds night and will be back this weekend. i plan on going through the entire menu. the ingredients are so fresh and such clean flavors throughout. i took pics of our bounty! http://flickr.com/photos/flooznyc/369...

        1. I went there tonight and was very happy that I did. We (my fiancee and I) had the roasted tomatoes with rosemary ricotta and an olive tapenade. She also had the fontina, mozarella and grana panini with truffle oil. I had the speck crostini with truffle egg salad and the prosciutto panini with sweet onion marmalade and grana. Everything was very tasty with flavor profiles that were right on the money. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Astoria.

          1. Went there tonight for the first time. We had a really good panini with goat cheese, portobello and asparagus and brought our own wine. Great lighting as well ;)

Make sure you try the peanut butter hot chocolate. It's fantastic!

            2. LOVE THIS PLACE! Everything is delicious here. Great variety on the menu, and lots of options for vegetarians; at the other end of the spectrum, I discovered speck there and fell in love with this incredible pork product. And yes, the peanut butter hot chocolate is fantastic, as is the hot maple milk.

Do they have a wine list? Is it BYOB?

                1. re: jdream

Last time I was there, it was still BYOB. I've heard they recently added a corking fee though.

Ended up going... two days in a row in fact... great meal (in particular the string bean salad, truffled egg crostini, bresaola with lemon aioli, and sweet gorgonzola with saba crostini!). they do have a $5 cork fee, still a bargain! great place
