Milano Freezer

Olympic Blvd, before Doheny in Beverly Hills on south side (next to CA Sushi and Roll)

As a frozen yogurt fiend, I've been to most places in the city (with Big Chill and Pinkberry being my favorites). However, I'd now put Milano Freezer as one of my top pics.

It has a great decor--lavender, black, white and peach with chic clear plastic and silver chairs/tables and lots of orchids. (The generic fake wood "thank you" trash can, though, could go.) They have super delicious, all natural frozen yogurt, and it tastes just like Pinkberry. Plus, they have lots of delicious gelato flavors.

I spoke to the owner who said he personally makes the gelato and frozen yogurt. He said he's opening another shop on Melrose near LaBrea in March.

In a city that is getting overrun with frozen yogurt stores, it's nice to support a local business with friendly staff and great yogurt/gelato.

  1. Cool... I got a 2-1 coupon in the mail, I'll have to try it out!

How do their prices compare with Pinkberry?

And, what do you think of Big Chill's Chillberry versus Pinkberry? The first time I tasted it I thought they were the same, and then the second time I thought Pinkberry's was noticeably better.

they're about the same price as Pinkberry. I like Pinkberry and Milano Freezer more than Big Chill's Chillberry b/c they are slightly lighter and tangier (though BC's is still pretty good).

    2. I stopped by soon after they opened and thought it was very good. I had the chocolate gelato, which was great and my sister had the frozen yogurt. She liked it better than Pinkberry as she thought it less sour. I cannot remember the exact price but it was not expensive. $10? Servings were good size. We arrived shortly after they closed early one night (they were doing some finish work) and they let us in, gave us time to order and were very gracious. I don't go out for gelato or yogurt very often but I will go back solely based on their service.

      1. I tried Milano Freezer on Saturday and really liked it. The owner Matthew is very, very nice. Their original yogurt is very much like Pinkberry, just a tad sweeter and creamier (which can be a plus or minus depending on your taste.) I don't really have a preference of one over the other, they both hit the spot. They also have a special flavor yogurt of the day, and that day it was green apple yogurt. It was good but a little too sweet for me. They are about .25 less expensive than Pinkberry. I tasted some gelatos that were also very good. I used one of my two 2-for-1 coupons I got in the mail. They also have a "get the 11th free" punch card like at Big Chill. And when we went, parking was a breeze. So, if you're in that area, Milano Freezer is a "must try" for Pinkberry fans.

        1. We tried this new place in BH last night. The small sizes are quite generous. The frozen yogurt is quite Pinkberry-ish -- closer to Pinkberry's iciness than many of the other imitators we've tried, which is either good or bad depending on your preferences. The gelato was OK going down, decent texture (a little lighter than some) and OK flavor.

But both the yogurt and the gelato had just a hint of artificialness in the flavors, and noticeable, unpleasant aftertaste (as does Pinkberry, IMO). It's a good location and we might return, but for flavor and texture it really doesn't compare to Mondo Gelato, or (Cynaburst's current favorite) the Bare Naked Yogurt at the Coral Tree in the Century City food court.

Just tried Milano Freezer and I really liked it. As the other poster noted, it does seem creamier than Pinkberry and although I agree they all have some sort of slight odd aftertaste, it's not as noticeable as Yogurt Queen (is that the name? On Melrose.) I thought the plain/green apple swirl for $3.00 was a good value.
