I know its kinda late but My husband and I decided to go on a date tomorrow. I know it's a friday night but we always have trouble deciding where to go. anyways baby sitter comes late so usually we are able to get tables since we go out late 9:30-10pm ish. so any good suggestions??
and if possible tell me whats good to order at the places you suggest!! thanks
Well, signup on opentable.com to make sure you get a reservation and enjoy. I go to lots of different places, but when you are looking for a reservation, opentable is a great resource.
I've made one for every year since 2003 on Valentine's Day using it, because calling restaurants until I found one that had space would be too taxing.
Well, if you go to Trata you have to order fish. Anything else is really like going to a steakhouse and ordering chicken. Trata is greek and grills fish. My wife orders Dover sole when we go, because she loves Dover sole. If they have a small one, I tend to order whatever they call tautog, which is usually referred to as black sea bass, but also make sure it is local, nothign something else like Chilean. Tautog is a fish that lives in rocks in waters from Nova Scotia to the Carolinas, more commonly Cape Cod to Delaware, so it's local and tend to be fresh. It also feeds mostly off of shellfish, and it's white flesh has a shell fish like taste. But, eat whatever fish you like. As an appetizer, order the chips of eggplant with the white tsatziki like sauce.
As far as Bellavitae, it's small plates so you get to order a number of things, not just one or two dishes. Things I remember liking: Baked Gorgonzola drizzled with Chestnut Honey; Mozzarella di Bufala Campana; and Garganelli Bolognese. I also really enjoyed the Moscato D'Asti as a dessert wine and have taken to buying it for home.
You can search the board for other suggestions and comments on either.
As Captain said, it would be helpful to have some specifics like cuisine preferences, casual vs. fancy, and budget. That said, checking OpenTable...
Urena has lots of availability between 9-10 p.m. We had dinner there this week, and Alex Urena's Spanish-influenced cuisine is superb! We found the ambiance to be quite pleasant, service was fine, and prices are a true bargain for food of this extremely high quality.
L'Impero has availability at 9:45. Wonderful food, good service, and lovely ambiance. A bit upscale, but not in the sky-high category. If you go, the seriously delicious mushrooms and plenta are not to be missed.
Not sure where in the city you'd like to go, how much you are looking to spend or what kind of food you'd want to eat. If you have any definite criteria, please post.
I did check opentable, and there are plenty of places with room at the time tomorrow. Picking two that are far apart and which I think are good choices, I might go to Bellavitae or Trata Estiatorio, both of which my wife likes a lot. See: http://www.trata.com/ and http://nymag.com/nymetro/food/reviews.... There are many other places you could go.
