[HOU] One meal in Houston Chinatown

Just found out that I will be making a short weekend trip to Houston this weekend. Will be in the southwest part of town for one meal so I've decided on Chinatown.

If you can have one meal (most likely lunch) in Houston Chinatown (Bellaire/Beltway 8) area, which restaurant would you pick? What dishes would you order?

I'm coming from Dallas so I'm hoping to get something that Dallas doesn't have (or doesn't have as good of a version). The first thing that came to mind is pan fried dumplings at Lai Lai, but perhaps there are better options now that I don't have to eat like a college student?

I'm ruling out dim sum and any large family style meals because there will just be 2 of us.

  1. I would probably go for Sandong Noodle House near the corner of B 8 and Bellaire. The beef noodle soup is great and the dumplings are devine.

    1. Lai Lai and Sandong are both great, but.... if you want something you can't get anywhere else,
go to Sichuan is unique, authentic, and amazingly delicious. But do pay attention to the recommendations in these postings (you will not be sorry!!!!):
      check it out:

      1. How about banh mi at one of the sandwich shops in Diho (Givral or Don's).

        1. Go to Sinh Sinh on Bellaire right before the Beltway and make sure to get the stir-fried eggplant stuffed with shrimp. Some people on this board aren't too fond of this place but it's one of my favorites.

I love that place because it's a great late night alternative to Tan Tan. I'd suggest the hot pot, but it's better to have that with more than 2 people, unless you're up for a big meal!

          2. donnaaries,
so where did you end up? ordinary or spectacular???
