Good but cheap dinner for 15 in LA

  • 7

Please suggest decent but relatively inexpensive restaurants within 10 mile radius to Downtown LA where we can have dinner with 15 people. Quality of food and price are top most priority. Place doesn't have to be chic --- only clean. Not choosy with cuisine --- Korean, Chinese, American, Italian, Thai, Vietnamese, etc. will do.

Will welcome any ideas. Thanks much.

  1. Guelaguetza on 8th St. in Korea-town has good food, is incredibly inexpensive and can easily accommodate your group.

    1. What does "relatively inexpensive" entail?

If you goto EMPRESS PAVILION in Chinatown, you could easily eat to your heart's (and stomach's) delight for anywhere between 15-20/person, esp. if you stay away from the live seafood items.

You could also probably reserve a room at SUSHI GEN and probably limit the damage to about 20/person.

For a little more, you might want to consider "old school" French at TAIX, where you are probably looking at 25/person (or maybe a bit more).

Empress Pavillion is a good call for a large group... you can have a delicious banquet- style dinner for about $20 per person, easily. You may even be able to get a private room in the back for no extra charge. You should give them a call and ask them about their banquet dinners.

        Empress Pavillion
988 N. Hill St. (enter the Bamboo Plaza on Bernard, restaurant is on 2nd floor)
        LA

I'd take Sushi Gen over EP on any day of the week, but I doubt they'd get out of there for less than $30 per person, and I don't think it's well designed for a large group like that. One or two big round tables at a Chinese restaurant would be perfect. Plus, Chinese is just easier to split the bill (if that's what you intend to do.)

      2. I would suggest going to Monterey Park (that's within the 10-mile radius, right?) and going to one of the first class Chinese places that are referenced all over the board.

        1. Foo House in Chinatown has cheap Hong Kong style grub for cheap and they're open late.

          1. Dim sum in SGV or even Chinatown all the way baby... Almost all can easily set up for large groups... Check out the zillions of dim sum postings... yeah baby, YEAH!
