"Send to phone" option?

When I choose the "Send to cell" option on a post, what am I asking the site to do? Send me the text of any new posts or just notification that there is a new post? Or something else? TIA.

The site is sending you a text message with the url of the topic. Eventually, you will be able to browse topics on your phone.

For those having difficulty using it, it should be working now.

      Yep. Thanks!

Is m.chow.com still in the pipeline? The regular site is a bit of a
hassle on mobile devices, as I'm sure you're aware, and a lightweight
version would be greatly welcomed. Just curious?

We are indeed going to be rolling out a mobile version of chowhound. Currently, http://m.chow.com is just for browsing recipes.

I didn't notice that'd been added. Cool, though. Anybody fool around with it yet?

Presumably it sends a text message via email. Most if not all carriers support that via addresses something like 4155551212@cingularme.com.

Tried on Tuesday. Didn't work. I assume it will in the future. Seems like a great idea.

Hey! It's sortof working. If you enter a phone number and click "send", the
little box flashes and gives no indication that anything was sent. But it was
sent. You might click it again, thinking it didn't work. In that case, it will
            send two.

What it does is sends a link to the whole thread. Unfortunately, the link it
sends is to the "m.chow.com" domain, which is currently titsup. As soon as
that starts working, the sending will be a bit more useful.
