restaurants around union square?
a group of about 15 or 20 of us want to dress up and eat somewhere nice for my friend's birthday. are there restaurants in SF walking distance from the bart station? price range about $15-$20?? i know there are, but the only one i know of is the cheesecake factory and frankly, we're all sick of eating there. any suggestions would be much appreciated! thanks!

That many people for lunch at any restaurant near Union Square is going to be a problem. Not many restaurants in that area have facilities for larger groups and those that do are usually booked-up and crowded most days. For dinner the choices are even fewer.
My suggestion is Harry Denton's Starlight Room. You will find it at the top of the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. The view of Union Square is stunning and the Starlight Room is very, very fine.
Harry's has room for your friends, serves wonderful cocktails and has an impressive menu that fits within your budget ... sort of.

OP never specificed lunch or dinner, which may imply she meant dinner.
Lunch would make it much easier to be in that price range.

The reference point is Cheesecake Factory, so it would be in that price range.
Menu pages might be a better reference than opentable which goes for the pricy places. Here's the list for Union Square.

Go to www.opentable.com They have a section for large groups and you can narrow down the part of town you want to eat in. Most have a map on the web sites and from that you can figure out if BART is close.
