Post Mardi Gras Group Gathering

ldixie Jan 24, 2007 12:22 PM

A bunch of college friends will be in New Orleans the weekend AFTER Mardi Gras. It'll be mostly couples. We're looking for a good place for a crowd of about 12, where we don't have to worry about being loud (but not rowdy) and having good, New Orleans-style food (Creole, contemporary New Orleans, or seafood all ok). It'll mostly be a bunch of women with a couple of token husbands coming along for the fun.

Don't want to spend 100 bucks a head, but 50 is fine. Will likely cab it wherever we go.

Thanks in advance.

Commander's Palace will be able to accomodate a group that large, is a beautiful space, has great food, at reasonable prices. It's not "cheap", but it's not going to be $100 a head. Brennan's is overpriced, so skip it. Bayona might be a bit subdued for what you're asking for, but I love their lunch. I've recently heard good things about Palace Cafe, which has been around for years. It's large and would accomodate a louder group. And of course, there's always Galatoire's. If you hold back on the drinks, the meal could be quite reasonable. I don't know if Herbsaint does lunch, but I went there recently and the food was outstanding. It's more contemporary creole.

Jacques-Imo's just might be the ticket...don't know about any private space there...but they will take reservations for groups of five or more. Not in the Quarter, a cab will be required, or in your case two or three, unless anybody is renting car(s).

        Their barely updated website is...
