Review - Tres Amigos (Loop 360)
My (somehwat random) chow tour of Austin continues with a dinner take-out from Tres Amigos on 360.
I was picking up some quests from the Airport and decided to pick up dinner on the way home. I stopped at Tres Amigios on the way TO the airport to look at the menu and place my order. The woman helping me suggested the carne guisada as a must have. I ordered that along with beef fajitas, chalupas compuestas, and puffy tacos (with chicken). Sides of beans, rice and guac rouded out the order. The food was ready at the agrred upon time, with the excpetion of the tortillas. The tortillas were made fresh when I arrived and wrapped in foil and put in a styrofoam container! I was very excited to try these!
Unfortunately the puffy tacos and the chalupas did not travel very well. They had turned soggy and lost shape during the drive home. The taste was still godd, but hard to evaluate given their condition (Not sure what I was thinking when I ordered them). The fajitas were quite tastey. the beef was grilled medium, so still moist and tender, and flavorful. The homemade tortillas were great. Still hot when we got home, they were a hot with everyone. Especially when wrapped around the carne guisada. I would drive WELL out of my way to have that again. I've not sampled that many recipes, but if this is even a mediocre representation, I am a new addict!
Overall I thought Tres Amigos was pretty good. I'd l ike to eat at the restaurant before making any final determination.
