Gordita de chicharrones y queso

Last weekend I stopped at the Giovanni y Los Magos truck on the corner of Sebastopol and Dutton in Santa Rosa for a quick bite. I came here because I wanted a fresh tamale, but then I noticed that gorditas had been added to the menu and ordered that instead. After I paid, I took my cup of hot champurrado over to a seat at the picnic table under the overhang. I didn't mind the wait, as it meant that the gordita was being cooked to order and would not be a reheated shell. Yes, indeed, this had the lovely toasted corn fragrance, delicate crispness and soft interior of freshly griddled masa. Overflowing with crunchy, fatty chunks of chicharron, rubbery bits of fresh Mexican cheese, salsa, fresh chopped onions, and cilantro --- just the right thing to hit the spot.

  1. Hi Melanie... yesterday I had some landscapers from Michoacan working at my place. So I basically told them... look at Lola's I've seen Huazontles, Quelites, Xoconostles, etc., etc., and not one single restuarant that uses any of that produce in the food... where can I get this.

There response was... Los Magos on Sebastapol Rd... but I don't think they are referring to a truck. Do you know if they have gone bricks & mortar, and have you had a chance to check it out?

Could we possibly have real Michoacan cuisine beyond antojitos & prawn dishes???

    1. Haven't been there, but I believe that Los Magos has a restaurant in the strip mall on the corner of Dutton and SEbastopol across the street from Lola's. It also has a truck and a tamales/uchepos cart that park in the service station on the other corner across Sebastopol Rd. from Lola's, though I've not seen them the last two times I was in the area. Pls. do check it out and let us know!

P.S. Pls take a look at the article I linked to in the construction site thread on Not About Food on the proposed taco truck ban in Salinas.
