Either Riverview Cafe which overlooks the Connecticut River or Adaggio Trattoria located on Main Street.

There's also Shin La a good Korean restaurant right in downtown. Also the Thai Graden which is also good.
If you're interested in good diner food, try Chelsea Royal in West Brattleboro.

I like 39 Main, Gillies on Western Ave and though I have not yet gone to Capers I have heard it is very good. As for lunch since I work right downtown in Brattleboro, Amy's Bakery has some good choices and I frequently get lunch from there. I aslo prefer The Putney Diner in Putney over Chelsea Royal. Right across the street from The Putney Diner is The Front Porch Cafe- also good.

If you're into all things beer, then you really should stop at McNeill's before going to dinner. The brewpub is on Elliot St. Several taps including three beer engines serving cask conditioned ales.

I haven't been there yet, but keep hearing good things about it. My neighbor loves it!
