Deleted posts visible on user pages and search

Posts that were "deleted" by moderators were apparently just marked not to be displayed. Now they can be seen again, both in users' recent posts and in search results. If it were just the off-topic posts of random trolls, it might just be a neat feature, but there's probably also some pretty offensive stuff that should not be visible on Chowhound.

As an example, after I initially posted this, I saw that Chuckles the Clone had also reported this issue, but the topic was removed (which is why I reported it). I can still see that on the Chuckles the Clone page, even though the topic has been removed. I assume this may also be removed, but still be visible on my page until this is fixed.

  1. Fixed; thanks for the report (not sure why Chuckle's was removed). The change will go out in the morning.

You got the biggest issue--full text of deleted posts available on a user's page--but the search continues to return topics that no longer exist. Try searching for your (or at least my) favorite expletive or also for "censorship". There's bound to be a deleted thread on the result page.

Nice job addressing the issues. We should be ready to move all this to the production system next Monday. No . . . wait . . .

I just noticed another issue with deleted posts. If you do stumble across a deleted thread (like, for example, ), you can still see who was participating in the thread in the "Who's Talking?" section. Not top-secret, but perhaps the fame or infamy is unneeded.
