Seaking the best matzah ball soup in downtown Toronto.

Micrapol Jan 22, 2007 05:38 PM

I love matzah ball soup! The best I ever had was in Montreal but I really want to find a good place for it here in Toronto. I like the matzah ball to be firm and the broth flavourful. Anyone have any ideas of where to try?

Sadly, I have not tasted good matzo ball soup anywhere in the Toronto area. Or good Jewish-style chicken broth for that matter.

Just noticed this. The very best matzoh ball soup, aside from homemade, can be found at Regina's on Shepard Ave. It's a family run and they've been around for many years and all their food is very good. They also have excellent kreplachs. I just noticed that you were looking for something downtown, which this is not, but it's definitely worth checking out. It's the closest thing to homemade.

This is the sort of thing often best made at home. Just buy a chicken for the soup (doesn't have to be Kosher, unless this is important to you) and some ingredients at any supermarket on Bathurst, and go to it in your kitchen.

I always make my own, but my girlfriend who is a fabulous cook ordered hers from The Harbord Bakery for the High Holidays (not kosher) and she said it was really great.
