Brains in Evansville
Just watched a re-run of Alton Brown's recent motorcycle road trip across the country. Watched him eat a brain sandwhich in Evansville. Is this really a local specialty and if so can you give a bit more info regarding how they are made and where to get them?
That would be from the Hilltop Inn - egg and flour and deep fried (would a Hoosier have it any other way?) - served on a bun. My mom likes it with mustard and pickle - personally I can't get past the obvious... Looks like a breaded tenderloin. oh, and it's typically beef brain. Evansville and the vicinity has good hearty German stock - no doubt one of their contributions. The West Side Nut Club festival the first week of October is a huge - HUGE festival - four block of 200 tents with nothing but food - and not a spec of it healthy!
